Ensures full activity at Oma Baatbyggeri at Stord.
Oma Baatbyggeri and Norled have signed a contract for the delivery of a 39-meter passenger catamaran with capacity for 296 passengers. The vessel will be delivered in March 2020 and put in passenger traffic in Troms in the route between Tromsø, Finnsnes and Harstad. It is the third of three vessels in which Oma Baatbyggeri and Norled have signed a contract this year.
The boat type is a further development of the passenger caramarans that the shipyard has delivered many of, – to different Norwegian shipping companies and the shipyard states that it has placed great emphasis on comfort, quality and universal design in all three vessels. “This contract, together with the contract for the two sister ships, will ensure full employment at the yard in March 2020,” says Gunnar Jan Oma, CEO at Oma Baatbyggeri in a press release.
Norled won the large tender for the fast-ferry service between Harstad and Tromsø from 2020 to 2030 in May. With it consolidated Norled position as the clearly largest fast shipping company in Norway. At the same time, Norled is now the world’s fifth largest speedboat operator. The company also operates in the field of fjord tourism and sees great potential for further development of the tourism sector in northern Norway. “Our ambition is to be a driving force for new and environmentally friendly technology,” says Vice President Lars Jacob Engelsen in a press release. “The cooperation within the maritime technology cluster in Norway is very special and in many ways resembles the leading technology communities found in the world, with high confidence and high flexibility at the same time.
