Dramatic land race at the shipyard

Yesterday’s dramatic land race in Hyen in the Gloppen municipality in Sogn og Fjordane was close to taking the “ Brødrene Aa´s “ shipyard. The masses penetrated the yard area, causing great damage.

Tor Øyvind Aa told yesterday that the water comes down from almost 1,000 meters altitude. A bridge across the plant was filled up with soil and rock, so the river took another run straight down to the workshop.

– A large part of the plant is now filled with stone, gravel and mud. In addition, parts of the second floor are broken down. There is probably damage to tens of millions (NOK) in both equipment and material, says Tor Øyvind Aa.

Neither Aa nor any of the other employees stayed at the premises when the storm occurred. However, Aa lives only five minutes away and tells that he immediately went down when he heard about what had happened.

“There is little you can do, but you just have to save what can be saved,” Aa told.

Ship of the Year

In recent years, the Aa brothers have been very much in focus after their groundbreaking vessels “Vision of the Fjord” and “Future of the Fjords”, both of which were awarded the Ship of the Year. The yard is scheduled to deliver building nr. 3 to The Fjords, “Legacy of the Fjords” as early as next year.
